Rest, lazy... tomato, tomoto.

I haven't done much of anything for the last few days. I've been getting a little stressed and shutting down. Everyone keeps asking if my 4 year old is going to preschool this year since she starts Kindergarten next year. I don't know if the rest of the world is aware, but preschool, unlike public school, costs money. A lot of money. We're looking into options where she might be able to go a few times a week, but that will still hit our finances pretty hard. Plus, she's been asking about it herself. She's such a social butterfly and can't wait to go to school where she can hang out with "her friends". It frightens me that she might be behind all of the other kids when finally does begin Kindergarten. I'm also getting anxiety about my daughter starting school because we live in a retail world and school is part of a 9-5 world. In the retail world you don't get home until 10:30 pm. If she's going to school at 8, when will we get to hang out as a family? Vacationing on actual holidays? Please. Those are the busiest days for shopping and everyone else in your store wants that weekend off too. So the odds that you will get that day off are slim to none unless you requested it last year. So when the kids are in school, when will we take family vacation? I'm sure we will figure it all out just like we always have, but the moment is rapidly approaching and I can't get it off my mind.

  1. If you want my opinion...i think she would love love love prek. I went to prek, although I dont remember it, think its wonderful and it gets them used to interacting with other "random" kids. This will in turn make the transition to kindergarden so much easier. Are there not any options that dont cost money? Such as like the park and rec? Im sure that might be money too but maybe less? Maybe its less if they go half days? And yes, I do think its going to be hard juggling it all since you both are retailers..but im sure you will figure it all out when the time comes. Maybe you will be working where you are now and be able to tell them you work days only, but then where would Braden go? You would have to pay for him to stay somewhere too..but he could do that and get interaction with other kids..but then why are you working to pay for that too??? hard situation either way...BUT YOU WILL FIGURE IT OUT, YOU ALWAYS DO :)

  3. I don't think preschool is necessary. What's she going to be behind on, the alphabet? Colors? A bigger risk is that when she gets there, she'll be bored with materials he already knows, because whether some of the kids go to preschool or not, they're going to teach kindergarten as if preschool doesn't exist.

Plenty of children don't go to preschool and do just fine.

  4. Extrapolate, extrapoliate try not to worry your pretty little head. Pre-k is basics, which you already have taught her or are teaching her in her daily life. It is more about routine, socialization, manners that kind of thing. You already know that she has no problem getting along with other kids and teachers.
