Made in America

I ran a couple of times this past weekend and I finally downloaded the Map My Run app on my phone.  I ran my "5" mile route slow and easy yesterday just to see what the app would tell me about the elevation changes.  As it turns out, my "5" mile route is only 4.7 miles.  Bummer.  But the elevation changes are pretty cool.  It's not an easy 4.7.

The last 1 1/2 miles is the very end of all my long runs and always the pace killer.

This weekend I watched a random Netflix documentary about Dr. Bronner's soap called "Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox".  Here is what I learned:

  • Dr Bronner is not at all a doctor.  He was a blind German born Jew who came to the US just as Hitler was coming into power.  He then spent some time in an asylum before escaping and beginning his infamous soap business.
  • Dr Bronner was crazy (literally) about the Moral ABC's, something he learned as a young child.
  • Every label on Dr Bronner's soap contains the Moral ABC's.
  • The company is still family owned and run by Dr Bronner's grandchildren.
  • Dr Bronner's produces all of it's soap right here in the good ole US of A.
  • The year that the documentary was made, they had donated 70% of their profits.
  • The company has a salary cap of 5 times the lowest paid employee.
I really like buying locally produced goods when I can and hearing about this company made me love my soap even more.  Ever if Dr Bronner was seriously wacked out, crazy.
I have that size bottle that you see right up there ^^^^.  It's about the size of the large Tresseme bottles and it costs $7.  Before you freak out about the price, just know that mine has lasted at least 4 months.  If you're hard core, you can even brush your teeth with it.

You may have already been aware of this awesome product, and if you weren't... you are now.

  1. I can't get in to this soap! I don't like the filmy feeling on my skin afterwards. I have tried it many times and I love their scents because they are very light and not overpowering. Just wish I could get over that film feeling. And wow on that route...quite an incline! I love looking at that kind of thing!

  2. I love Dr. Bronner's!

I dilute it 50/50 with water for body wash. I use it as an ingredient in my cleaning supplies. I put it in foaming bottles as hand wash. It's great!

I also buy mine wholesale through Frontier Wholesale. They have a ton of natural products at a discount - everything from body products, cleaning supplies, spices, coffee, and more! A life time co-op wholesale membership is only $10 and you get free shipping with orders over $250 so I combine orders with a bunch of friends every couple of months.

  5. I have some of that soap, too. An exboyfriend with a penchant for hiking introduced me to it. I love the mint - it smells great!
